Sipping on Beers of the Month (or week)

I know I'm not the normal person to write about beer. We usually leave that to Dano, because he's just so darned good at it and he knows a lot more about beer. I'm not here to tell you to drink this beer or that; I'm here to tell you that you should be getting out for some fantastic beer tastings!

Road Trip to Charleston, South Carolina
5 Hours or Less

Charleston, South Carolina

The Honey and I left Macon at about 3pm on Friday afternoon to head to Charleston, South Carolina. Besides visiting family, it was the furthest we've driven to have a "vacation"… four hours and thirty minutes. We picked the Rodeway Inn in North Charleston; at $41 it was the least expensive room we could find at the last minute. While there are hotels in the downtown district, you could pay $125 or more a night.

The Rules of Top Chef

As I get more and more sucked in to the new season of Top Chef, the All Star edition, I've found that people are not learning from the mistakes that they, and others, have made in the previous seasons. I've found myself yelling at the screen when someone conceives a dish with too many elements or says they're going to make ice cream.

So, with the help of my good friend, fellow food lover and Top Chef fan Heath Dobson, I've come up with a list of what NOT to do if you find yourself competing on Top Chef.

Top Chef: ALL STARS

Warning:

If you want a thoughtful, provocative look into the world of food competitions, sorry, I don't have that for you today. But if you're ready to dish on the new season of Top Chef, the All Star edition, which started December 1 on Bravo at 10pm, this is just the place for you.

Considering Toys at Christmas Time

Babysitting one Saturday afternoon, I sat down with the girls and watched Toy Story 3 for the third time. This new story about toys coming to life reminds me of the Velveteen Rabbit, a story by Margery Williams, which captured my imagination when I was little. In the story, the rabbit becomes the beloved toy of a little boy, even though it is not as fancy as that boy's other toys.
