Fermentation Workshop
| March 15, 2009 | ||
On Sunday March 15th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, a workshop explaining the techniques used to ferment foods will take place at Yvonne’s Natural Market located at 4123 Forsyth Street. Cost of the workshop is $20.00. The workshop will discuss the history of fermentation, how fermentation occurs, techniques used to promote fermentation, and will include “hands on” demonstrations utilizing a variety of foods.
The science of fermentation is known as zymology. Fermentation precedes human history, since fruit ferments naturally. Archealogical excavations date fermentation to 5000 BC. Fermentation can produce important nutrients or eliminate antinutrients. Fermented foods enrich the diet through development of a diversity of flavors, aromas, and textures in food substrates. Commonly known foods such as yogurt and sauerkraut are examples of fermented foods.
For further information and to register for the workshop please contact Yvonne’s Natural Market, 4123 Forsyth Street, Macon GA, 478-254-3670.
