April 9, 2008 - Dave Ellington – Can You Hear My Hat?
Piano wizard David Ellington shows students the essence of classical, jazz, Latin, rock and New Orleans piano music through example and participation. David wears hats to correspond with each musical style and students are invited on stage to wear the hats as a signal for cueing the musical styles. Students hear the sounds of classical, jazz salsa, gospel and rock, demonstrated on both piano and guitar as they learn vocal and percussive patterns to accompany the tunes. Students learn to identify musical styles by scatting, singing, clapping and joining in.
